My wife was almost left stranded when the trap door of her new Stant gas cap broke off and blocked the hole where the gas pump goes. They provide a special tool to tighten this gas cap for a semi-permanent install. When the trap door broke off my wife was not strong enough to remove the cap and was unable to fill her tank. Luckily she was able to get home on the gas that was left in the car. I was able to remount the trap door in the cap only to have it fall off again a week later.
I continued to use the same style Stant cap on my GTO thinking that maybe the one that was on my wife's truck was defective. I had no issue for five months until yesterday when the trap door broke off of mine preventing me from filling up as well. I was able to remove the cap by hand so that I could fill my tank. I drove home without a gas cap and installed the factory cap when I arrived home. Both of the Stant caps; the one for my wife's 2005 Nissan Frontier and the one for my 2006 Pontiac GTO are now in my garage trash can. I would not recommend this style of gas cap to anyone.
