It seems the only difference between these two models of speakers is the peak power handling. The SX65s are a little shallower than the S65s. The S65 has Kortec 3 tweeters and the SX65 has Kortec 2 tweeters.
The speaker itself is actually 5 1/2 inches and mounted very easily in my Sonata. The SX65 was viewed as an "upgrade" over the S65
on some websites. and was not supposed to fit in my car. All I had to do was drill three small holes in the factory speaker holder and
it mounted fine.
There is not as much bass as I had hoped...however there isn't an amplifier or subwoofer in my car, so the peak handling power issue for my car is probably mute. The Boston Acoustics S95 (6X9) rear speakers sound very good with alot of bass, so that probably drowns out some of the front door speaker range.
Overall, the SX65 is a good speaker. There are times I wished I had purchased the S65s just to hear the difference. The cost is virtually identical. Boston Acoustics in my opinion has always been a decent speaker company for those of us on a budget (although the company makes much more expensive speakers also).
This speaker would sound much better with a small amp...time to check the Amazon website. :)
