Pioneer TS-D1720C 6.75-Inch D-Series 280-Watt Speaker Package Review

(More customer reviews)I use only Pioneer audio products in my car, so I'm somewhat bias, but I am not happy with these speakers. Note this is my first experience with component speakers. The previous speakers I used are the D-Series Pioneers and they were very great. But the tweeters on these components are too loud. I have them hooked up to the -3db line on the crossover and I've adjusted the higher frequency settings on my equalizer but the sound is still displeasing.
If you are someone that listens to softer music or music primarily with deep bass and no highs then the sound is wonderful. I have no problems listening to most of my techno/Dubstep. However, when I play my heavy metal, I do so loudly.
Unfortunately, the higher pitches from the electric guitars and cymbals are still too high even after equalizer adjustments. I suspect the causes are due to the fact that I have my tweeters in the door frames near the handle. This puts it closer to the driver than the factor speaker holes. Also, when in the factory holes, the full range speakers' tweeter is partially obstructed by the door. This would also reduce the sound produced whereas the tweeters on the component speakers have nothing obstructing them.
I've already flush mounted my tweeters so if I relocate them I'll have to somehow fill in and cover the cuts in the door. =( I really don't want to return them cause they were a pain to install. I'm going to first try relocation and then possibly use some sort or cover to absorb some of the high frequencies.
Also, the plastic construction of the speaker is a bit disappointing as well. It comes with these small metal jackets which you place over the plastic holes for the screws. If you don't use those then the plastic will split. Since my previous Pioneers have a metal base I expected a higher quality of composition from Pioneer. This was someone's idea of saving a few cents by sacrificing quality.
If I can make these tweeters sound good then I'll prob give the system another star. But currently I'm disappointed with them so 2 is all they get for now.

Coming from RF I had pretty high expectations on them and they truly did deliver. All I have to say Is LOUD and CLEAR with a hugh magnet to back it up! they rock. I also purchased the Rockford Fosgate RFX9020M Marine Stereo Receiver to complete the package, also purchased on Amazon as well. The finished polished metal look on the grills truly set them off, and no ugly phillips screws to mount them with. Hardware that was supplied was alan screws with the alan key of course. My next boat will have these speakers as well when It comes time to do the audio.

Boss 865DBI In-Dash DD MP3-CD-AM-FM Receiver Review

(More customer reviews)The Boss 865 DBI is a full featured double DIN unit That includes an IPod dock, SD card reader, UBS, Bluetooth audio and phone all built in with no other adapters to buy.
Out of the box the unit seemed to be heavier than the unit I was replacing, the stock radio from my 97 Geo Prizm.
The installation was about an 8 on a 1-10 ease of installation chart. The only reason for the 8 was only one hole lined up on each side of the mounts so I had to locate and drill the other holes, after that everything was pretty easy. The interface took a bit to learn but within about 15 minutes you will understand the logic so it becomes easy to setup and operate.
I have tried every function except the IPod dock (I don't own an IPod) which is cleverly installed behind the face place so Your IPod is out of sight. I will have to borrow my wife's IPod to see how it works and post an update.
The unit loads up the SD card and it sounds good. The display is easy to read which I find is a plus for someone that wears reading glasses. It tells you what song is playing and the album/group like an IPod screen.
The CD player works well although it is a bit slower to read the disk than most units (It says "reading" for a couple of seconds).After playing a CD, the unit and the CD is still cool to the touch. Most car units I have used make the CD feel like it was just in an oven.
The unit has a transfer function that can transfer files from the CD player to other media in the player. Note: It will not copy a regular audio CD, the CD has to be a MP3 or a WMV file format.
The Bluetooth works good and sounds good in both directions. It can store the last 10 numbers dialed but has no voice dial function.
I am quite pleased with the price and the quality of the unit. It seems that it will last a long time from what I see.
If I were to make suggestions to improve future versions of the unit would be as follows:
The volume knob is too small and slippery, could put knurls on it like the tuning knob.
The writing could be bigger and/or easier to read on the remote control.
The display could use a "progress bar" that lets you know how far along a song has played.
A voice dial function would give this unit a total hands free Bluetooth dialing experience.UPDATE: The unit worked great for 22 months but lost all media reading ability from SD card USB and CD player, so the only thing left working is the Radio and 1/8" Stereo Jack. Mic. fizzled out a few months ago on the Bluetooth, so people tell me I sound like I am in a box.
Absolutely no support from Boss. Oops warranty is up.
I am going to put in a Pioneer, maybe a brand name might not be this kind of waste of money in the long run no matter how cheap the price is. Just more work to do another install.

Well as it turns out that they really are that old complete with somewhat stiff rubber element. They are still passable, and will stay on the truck this winter, but a far cry from the one I could have purchased new from a Ford dealership. Oh well lesson learned, a deal that looks too good to be true probably is. Not good Amazon, not good...

Trico 17-220 Teflon Blade Refill - 22" (1 Refill) Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this to replace the blade on my Honda Odyssey, rather than paying much more to replace the whole arm. They recommend replacing the blade at least twice a year but because of the expense I was doing it only when it started streaking. On our last trip, the blade was making an irritating noise as it scraped across the windshield, although it wasn't streaking. So, I thought I'd try this approach instead.
The blade arrived promptly with Amazon Prime shipping (in a box about 100 times its size!) and I had no trouble removing the old blade and inserting the new one. Yesterday it rained pretty hard so had a chance to use it. No noise, no streaks. Works as advertised. If it holds up in icy winter weather, I'll use these to replace the blades on a regular basis now.
I would have given it 5 stars but the price still seems a little high.

(More customer reviews)While these speakers had good fitment into the factory locations in my 2001 Dodge Dakota, I quickly realized that it wasn't worth the effort. Please ignore what may appear to be quality construction in the pictures and in the specs. The workmanship on these made-in-China wonders is sloppy throughout, despite the high gloss and enormous magnet affixed to the basket. The poly in the description is, by no means, short for "polypropylene" (if I spelled that correctly), a high quality woofer component. In fact, I don't know what the hell it could be other than just plain plastic. Another unfortunate shopper may see the sensitivity rating given for these speakers and assume that they are efficient. They are not and I am confident that regardless of the amount of power you supply to push them, the sound reproduction will always be lifeless and muffled with no amount of bass or midrange response pleasing to the ear. I didn't waste my time installing the tweeters since I still had the factory installed Infinitys in the door; I doubt they would impress as well. For the price, of course I didn't expect audiophile performance, but after installing them, I feel like Planet Audio SHOULD INSTEAD PAY US to listen to these awful speakers. If you're just looking for a budget replacement for your current set, you won't even find that here. Because you'll be yanking them right out and spending your money on yet another DIFFERENT pair. Steer of clear of these underachievers!

(More customer reviews)These things are absolute crap, Im a mechanic and attend college full time for mechanical engineering I have installed probably 2 dozen sets of aftermarket speakers in my life these are the worst I have ever seen, no other speaker I have ever seen is anywhere near the level of low that I consider these speakers, first of all let me bring to your attention that they are sold in singles. Only speaker for a car I have ever seen not sold in pairs... They come with no hardware, no electrical connections, no anything. I bought the 6x9s and a pair of 6.5s thinking that I dont need anything special just a cheap stock replacement, I did not get that. What I got were four completely useless hunks of junk. Right out of the box they crackled and popped at what I consider normal listening level forcing me to listen to them at half of the volume I would normally listen to my music at, by the end of the week even at the low volume level one of each size was completely blown. The other two barely audible. Just save your money and buy something that will work. I just bought the Polk Audio equivelants to replace these and they are nothing short of amazing. I spent 60 on four of these with shipping and 130 on the polks with shipping and I would do it again every time. Would not pay 10 bucks for a set of four, junk.

(More customer reviews)I purchased it last month, and had installed immediately. I have not upgraded my factory speakers, but the increase in sound quality was immediately noticible. The touch screen has the appropriate sensativity in my opinion. The quality of the dvd picture is EXCELLENT. Looks no different than a smaller version of my 50 inch Samsung Plasma. Tom Tom plugs easily into the port and displays perfectly. Has a hook up for a rear back up camera, that can be activated by a simple touch of the screen. Cd player works excellently. Plays multimedia, so hook up any device you can think of, and dj from the passenger seat. Those who are intending to purchase must realize the the screen flips upward. Be cautious of what it may block in the process. If you have vents above your deck area, I would advise you to choose another radio. I bought it for a 2001 Dodge Conversion Van, and the only issue I have is the gearshift, which I must pull toward myself, to allow the screen to go up without being blocked. DVD player has a block that does not allow it to play while car is in gear, but I hear that there is a way around it (wink wink), but try not to allow it to distract the driver. I also purchased a 20 inch Fold down Pyle TV, which is connected to my radio, so I can show the dvd's there, and fold down the screen in the front so the driver is not disturbed.
