(More customer reviews)Initial Review.
I purchased the PLCD42 as a replacement for the long-dead stereo in my pickup. It looks great, has excellent features, and sounded very good for a unit in this price range. Then it quit after only 10 days of use. I'm preparing to send it to the manufacturer for warranty service. Not only am I required to pay for shipping to Pyle, but they want a $15 money order for return shipping, handling and insurance. So within 10 days of installing it, it'll cost me nearly one-third of the orignal purchase price to get it working again. I'm reluctant to spend good money on bad. Maybe there's a lesson here on the value of a bargain.
July 2007 Update.
The PLCD-42 failed after 10 days in service with an "Error-04". The service technician instructed me to try a cleanng disk. It had no effect, so I returned it for repair. They would not even look at it without an enclosed check for $15. With shipping, I've now spent about $27.
I received the unit about three weeks later. A note in the box said that no repairs were made because nothing is wrong. It failed again with an "Error-04" after three days in service. They were willing to waive the $15 service fee, but wanted me to pay for my own shippng. After some dicussion, they agreed to send a money order to cover shipping (it hasn't arrived yet). They said that they ordinarily DO NOT pay shipping until the product has been returned FOUR OR FIVE times.
Meanwhile, since I've been without music more since buying the Pyle, I bought an Alpine. The initial cost was a bit more, but if I add the cost of the Pyle, the $15 service fee, and shipping FOUR or FIVE times, then the Alpine is way cheaper -- and it sounds better.
